It is just another day for me but I don't have a problem with Columbus' birthday being celebrated. His trips across the ocean impacted the history of the western hemisphere more than any other historical figure. Was he perfect? No. He was a product of his times. But he did contribute greatly to the history and culture, both positive and negative, of the New World as well as 15th century Europe. I see no problem with reflecting upon and celebrating Columbus Day.

I for the life of me can't figure out why we celebrate it. He is not American. I think it is a bigger deal to the Italian Americans.
