I have never liked the Miami program, and this further cemented that dislike. I saw this morning that some players were kicked off, and or suspended...but allowed to keep their scholarships.

In the same article, I read that Lamar Thomas, a former Hurricane football player who did color commentary for the local TV station covering the game, was fired for comments he made during the brawl

No excuse, there are a lot of former players/coaches in the booth, very rare that you see them make asinine comments like this guy did

Miami is the only ACC team I'm willing to cheer against when they play an out of conference opponent.
However, bear in mind this brawl was started by FIU. Every player that Coker (Miami coach) has been able to identify being involved in hitting or fighting has been suspended. Reddick, the one swinging his helmet has been suspended indefinitely. UM also requested the termination of Lamar Thomas for his comments during the game.
IMO this is the result of the NCAA permitting trash talking instead of simply playing football on the field. Even in Georgia high schools trash taking is permitted and if you criticize it, you are being told to shut up.
Back in my day (and yes, it was AFTER the War Between the States ) sportsmanship was highly valued in sports. Getting flagged for an unsportsmanship call got you pulled immediately by the coaches and strongly disciplined. Today, it's rare to see a player in the collegiate ranks pulled by a coach for such infractions.
When players score a touchdown, the dance or spiking of the ball comes. They could careless about the upcoming 15 yard kickoff penalty. If points were subtracted from the score for such offenses you would see a much better improvement in how the game is played.

I also read that the 'Canes are suspending for 1 game only--Duke, which was not going to be a difficult game.
They are talking about zero tolerance in their program, yet this is the third offense this season alone.

How unfortunate. They don't plays us until the week after next. I'm sure they will be at full strength when they come blowing into Atlanta. They aren't complete fools.
In all fairness to Miami, they have actually improved in their sportsmanship compared to years past. I think this incident with FIU will probably be the straw that breaks the camel's back. I suspect UM will require their football to actually behave and stop acting like a street gang.
And just one other note. There is a Miami fan in my office that flys down to Miami for their home games. And he can be just a little bit of a jerk at times also when it comes to Miami football. So it may be that their personna attracts a certain type of individual to their team and fan base.
Now, what's a buckeye??
