So North Korea, Israel, Iran, Pakistan, ... have (or are suspected of having) nuclear weapons. Is it just another Cold War? Or, is it different this time around? Did it feel any less a threat back in the day with just Russia and their red allies having the oppositional nuclear force?
Are there bomb shelter salesmen chomping at the bit?

All I know is that the two imbeciles that are ruling N. Korea and Iran make me infinitely more nervous than anyone Russia had at the helm.

The scary part of this new Nuke society is whereas the US and USSR had many controls and safety nets to make sure a nuclear holucast did nothappen by accident, these countries do not. I'm thinking deloyment is at the whim of the big boss.
It does not bother me they have it - its what they want to do with it and the fact there is no real "control" on their actions.
One has to remember, you can do all the posturing you want but if you do set one off, your country will be retaliated against. No leader in their right mind wants that.

That's the real question then, isn't it?
Kim Jong Il doesn't appear to be a paragon of sanity, IMO.

And thus, the cold war... the threat of retaliation (or is it the threat of the overall devastation) that deters the actual button pushing.
I don't think that communists were thought of as particuarly sane back then either.
