I've been taking a different route to work and I'm considering stopping by one of those coffee houses (not Starbucks). Just so I don't seem completely JACKEDUP*, I need to know a little something more about coffee than I do now. I think Folgers is good stuff. Neutral

I'm uncultured also. Folgers here too. Or Maxwell House, whatever the heck is on sale.

Just so you don't get into too much of a culture shock I would start off with a "French Roast" blend of some American Coffees. The coffee aficionados here will cringe but please remember, he's just starting.

I generally start my morning with a large home made espresso coffee. You can get a very good and reasonably priced espresso grind by purchasing either Goya or El Bustelo coffees. You will find them in either the coffee aisle or the international aisle in your market.

Bottom line: anything is better than the plain old every day American style coffee we've all come to accept as the norm.

folgers maxwell house
weak foul bitter acid
why even bother?

hmmm...

what would you like to know?

there is a something in the coffee house that has nothing to do with coffee, which makes it all worth it... CCGs. Once you discover a CCG, you'll gladly pay $2 for a cup of brew

i thought i knew coffee, but wth is a CCG? is it like a CVjoint?

last time i drank maxwell house or, worse, folgers i was in college and was most likely lighting up that Salem to go right along with it...it was the breakfast of champions. puke

PH, are you intimidated by the coffee house snobs who seem to know exactly what they want to order and scoff at newbies like you who stare, slackjawed, at that list of overpriced unknowns on the wall behind the "barrista"....HURRY UP, YOU'RE HOLDING UP THE LINE.....

just get a tall cappucino. that's all. no kinky foam job, no syrup, no whipped cream, no double shot of nothing. it's a shot of espresso with some steamed milk shot into it. add some of that natural brown sugar stuff that usually sits on the bar and don't forget the paper cup wrap thingy--nothing dorkier than trying to handle that scalding hot cup without that huggie thing. that's the secret. figure out what you want BEFORE hand, then you look really good when you say:

I'll have a grande soy hazelnut soy no foam latte with an extra shot....

kind of like Steve Martin's "omlette du fromage..." now there's an OBSCURE reference for you...

Too bad Genie's missing all these FRENCH references... she'll be sad she missed them.

I must confess, I don't even know how to brew coffee... Embarassed

I made some coffee for my ex-wifes grand parents last year (they are in their early 80's) and they told my ex that it was the strongest coffee they ever had... Embarassed

Oh, I'll get slayed for this one, but I worked in a coffee shop for 3 years during college so I've got skillz...

I 'recommend' you starting with a gas station type fake cappuccino first (french vanilla). It serves as an excellent 'gateway' if you will.

However, if you'd like to jump right in, I'd recommend a small glass of Hazelnut brew with some cream and a couple sugars..

Oh, and that little wrap around the cup is called a Java Jacket!
