Posted: 05/25/03 - 13:48 Post subject: Coffee Maker Recommendations ??
Mrs. keltic broke the pot on my Braun coffee maker yesterday I'm thinking it was on purpose, but the pressing issue is what to do about a replacement. The replacement 'carafe" online is about $20 and the wal-mart ones don't specifically say that they will fit my particular coffeemaker. If I'm paying $20 for the pot, I might as well purchase a new coffeemaker, right?
So in the $20-$40 range (a little more is ok, but I'm not prepared to go to the real upscale models at this point) do you have any recommendations on what kind of coffeemaker to purchase?

i have a Melitta right now, altho it is a grinder and maker in one (which i love) I think they have a less expensive brewer only and it has been a great one. it has the metal basket so no more filters EVAH.
I had Braun before this; very good too.
just dont buy a Mister Coffee. I burnt that up and the coffee was skank.
on purpose? not a big coffee drinker

A friend gave us his old cappucino maker but we didn't think we would use it much. As it turns out, we ended up putting or 12 cup coffee maker away. We discovered that when we wanted a coffee, latte, or cappucino, we didn't have to make an entire batch of it where as you felt compelled to drink it all. Now it's just 1 to 2 cups of really good coffee a day.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....................................lattes.
Cappucino machines cost about the same as a coffee maker too.

OK here is the scam
Contact Gevalia and make a coffee order. With the first order they send you a 12 cup coffee maker (they private label- Krupps coffee makers) and 2 small packages of coffee to use.
It costs about 14.95 and then you cancel membership before they ship you any more coffee.

Right now I have this Cuisanart Stainless bad boy, it cost me about $100, but you can get it now for probably about $70. It is beautiful to look at at it makes pretty good coffee.
I had a Braun Flavorselect before it, and it was the best coffeemaker I ever had. I highly recommend it.

I had the Gevalia coffeemaker/thermal carafe for a while and got rid of it because I didn't like the way it made coffee. That, and it tended to leak all over the counter. I put it away and got my Braun out again. until yesterday when SHE BROKE THE POT

I went to Krispy Kreme for the first time evah today! (I've had the donuts before, but had never been to the store) I tried their coffee, the Bold version and it was very good.
Now, I have plans that show just how addicted I am to coffee: I will make my coffee into a mason jar tomorrow morning before I head out to race. that way I can have a cup or two to get me motivating.....

We have been to Coffee Maker hell and back. We've tried almost evey coffee maker there is and it all boiled down to the cheapest one Delta could find during a lack-of-caffeine-because-the-coffee-maker-broke-again induced stupor. We are currently very happy with the no-frills Proctor-Silex that I think Delta paid a whopping $10. The best part about this coffee maker is that the warmer isn't really hot, so if the pot sits there for awhile the coffee just stays warm, it doesn't keep cooking. It's actually cool enough that if we forget to turn it off, it doesn't burn the pot.
And BamBam, I've got a Gevalia Coffee Maker that works too. I guess I should say that my son is now in posession of my Gevalia Coffee Maker that works!
