As most of you know I am know coaching Jason's soccer team. I started last fall (with no experience) and decided to help out the league since they were short on coaches. I thought I did an okay job last fall considering I had several boys who didn't want to play or wouldn't listen.

Well this spring I had my son, another carry-over plus 4 new boys and with one game to go the team has played REALLY well. Everyone listens, they all try, granted some more than others and the parents seem to like my coaching style. (The reason for my post)

I have adopted the motto of have fun and just kick the ball in the right direction. What do you expect for 4 1/2 and 5 year olds. They play 3 on 3, small fields, and no goalie. This year we have gone undefeated (although we don't officially keep score they boys still keep track.

Well this Saturday I had a Dad from the OTHER Team come over and compliment me on how well my team played!!!! thumbs up

Chris said that the parents of my team were a little shocked/surprised at how intense the other coach was with his team. The guy is a friend of mine and I knew he could get intense at times but I never thought he would get that intense with a bunch of 4 year olds that have never played. The parents on my team were still talking about him today.

It just felt really cool to have this other dad come over and ask how long the kids had played together and he said that they played a great game. That really just made my day.

Now I just wish my race (see my Ravines Run race report) that night was as good! burning mad

I'm glad you're that kind of coach! Colin was always lucky in that his coaches weren't the intense type. We did play against some teams with horrible, mean coaches. We even had to lodge a complaint against another team's coach because of his language and behavior towards the children.

Keep up the excellent work, FB!!!

I really like Andrew's coaches. He definitely not the most talented, not very fast, and not the most excited kid to play---but one of the coaches is always shouting encouragement out to him and the other one helps him with skills when he's out of the game.

thumbs up kudos coach. We know that keeping parents happy is harder than keeping the kids happy and you are managing both!!!!

Our kids coach's are great, and the coach's we have seen from the other teams as well. In our league its the parents motives I question. At this age its all about having fun and learning the game, not winning.

Good job FB. It's pretty nice when one of us volunteer coach's gets a pat on the back.

My team's first baseball game of the year is tonight. Of course, the weatherman is calling for showers and tstorms. Evil or Very Mad I have a team of 13 & 14 yr olds, some good ballplayers, some not very good and a couple of pretty bad players. My only gripe though is that after my first 4 hitters my team speed is ridiculously slow. I guarantee some of these kids grandmothers could beat them to first base....

This motto of yours certainly has paid off! Mr. Green
That's what it's all about at your son's age.
You're doing a great thing!

"HAVING FUN!"
