Maybe I'm just getting old and stuff, but I've found that I really like to have the subtitles or the closed caption thingy turned when I watch a movie.
I tried to watch part of LOTR :: The Two Towers last night and I was lost from frame 1. Partly because a) I couldn't understand any of the dialouge (especially Golum) b) I've never read the books and didn't watch all of the 1st movie.
Anybody else like to read movies?

I love to read movies!! I especially love putting the subtitles into French so I can learn some more French words!
Mr Aire hates all subtitles.

The TVs at the gym all have closed caption - for news and stuff, it's terrible. For shows, etc., it's OK.
The only time I've used it at home is when they show episodes of the first season of King Of The Hill, so I can figure out what the heck Boomhauer is saying.
Never used it for any movies.

I put the captioning on when I am riding the trainer, sometimes its hard to hear what is being said.

Chris has to use it all the time so I am totally used to it now. Her dad still hates it when we turn it on at their house. We do turn it off for football games since they are usually so far behind and it always seems to come up right where the action is.
Chris does wish that they would subtitle movies in the theaters so she could understand what was said when there is a lot of background noise during the scene!

Only like it on 2 occasions, otherwise it's annoying.
1) at the gym if I'm listening to music and it's on the news or something I will read sometimes.
2) sitting in bed nursing baby in the middle of the night I could turn down the volume, turn on the captions and watch TV while hubby slept. The worst was when I would actually find something good to watch and it didn't have captions.

At the gym, I'll "read" a movie. At home, no way. My hearing is good - if I want to read, I'll grab a book. You miss way too much looking down instead of at the whole screen. I can't imagine how much you'd miss on the big screen.

Well, when I'm sitting in the family room and the wife gets a phone call and starts talking then I turn on the CC. At least I can follow along and not bother her with the TV volume.
It would not do me any good to use CC at night in same room as wife. She turns off the cable box because the light from the box's clock will keep her awake. She is such a light sleeper I joke about her waking up when I turn into the street.

I guess since I have been dealing with it for almost 10 years now I am used to it. You learn to scan fast so you don't miss anything.
