Sen. Clinton: GOP running the House "like a plantation"
New York - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking Monday at a ceremony honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., compared the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to a plantation where dissent is not tolerated.
Her comments, made before a predominantly black audience at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem, drew a harsh response from the GOP, but black leaders came to her defense.
At the ceremony, the Democratic senator from New York said that her party was largely responsible for much of the nation's progress in areas such as civil rights and women's rights.
She suggested that things had changed in recent years with Republicans in control of the White House and Congress, according to a transcript of her remarks.
Clinton added that the House has been "run like a plantation" under Republicans.

RNC's response:
A spokeswoman for the White House declined to comment and referred questions to the Republican National Committee.
RNC spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said: On a day when Americans are focused on the legacy of Martin Luther King, Hillary Clinton is focused on the legacy of Hillary Clinton.
If Hillary is the best the Dem's can put forward, they are in for another dismal performance at the voting booths.

huh? I think a comment like that not only has to be heard in context, but almost "had to be there". I'm sure it didn't sound so bad at the time????? You'd have to hear a live speech, I think. Written, it looks really bad and i have a hard time that Hillary wouldn't have known that.

I cannot stand Hillary. She seems to take any opportunity possible to slam the white house. She's pretty tasteless in the way she does it, also. This seems to be just another instance of her tastelessness.
I hope she does run... it's the perfect opportunity to put her in her place.

I try to stay out of the political stuff, and most can figure out that I'm a Dem, but I have to say this:
Hilary and her comments: Tasteless and Pandering.

I tend to lean towards Democratic as well, but Hillary won't be getting my vote if she runs. And this qoute didn't put me over the top.

I agree that she takes the opportunity, but this just seems "too ignorant" for her. I'm just really shocked that she didn't take a look at her script the second time and say "wow, that's really bad". It's the arrogance factor and that doesn't get votes in this country.
whoosh.....(her bid down the toilet)

Did he say it directly to them?
I honestly think that is just fine.

so without regard to her comments on dissent, why doesn't someone try and inform us just what has been by congress, house or senate and/or the executive branch over the last say 5 years to advance civil rights of minorities and women??? or are we at an ideal state with no further improvements needed?

Honestly, in my opinion, I think the best thing to do is to have government stay out of it.
I have no clue what government has done in the past 5 years to advance anyone's rights. I sure hope it has not been too much. There are enough unenforced laws on the books.
Don't take it the wrong way, I believe in equality, jut not forced equality.
I'm sure that came out wrong, it usually does from me. I am, after all, a Liberatarian.

You know there are tons of them and I'm not getting sucked down that path, but thanks for the invite.

She's the one claiming that her party is responsible for all advancement of civil rights for minorities and women - maybe she should provide the examples. Providing examples of the master of the plantation holding the minorities and women back might not be a bad idea either.
Nobody is saying we are in an ideal state regarding civil rights although on paper we've all got the same rights. Comparing the current administration to how a plantation is run is gonna be a large political mistake.
