Chevy had the El Camino
Ford had the Ranchero
Did Pontiac have a corresponding model ? Somewhere in the back of my mind I think there was. Then again there's a lot back there.

I have before me THE Motorbook-International compilation of Chevy El Camino road test, tech data, new model intros, fact reports, performance data, spotters guide and in-short all that is, was and ever will be El Camino. Soooo, to answer your question Andy, no, there is no Pontiac version. But there was a GMC model called the Caballero. Perhaps that's what you remember.

Ok while you're there - What was the Ford Falcon version of the Ranchero ?
BTW GMC and Chevy trucks are made on the SAME assembly line.

Okay Andy, let me consult the Ford wing of the jrjo library. The Motorbooks-International 1957-1967 Ford Pickup edition tells me the Ford Falcon Ranchero was the design from 1960-1966. Ford wanted to downsize the Ranchero and used the Falcon styling. Personally, I liked the direction they went in 1967 and used the Ford Fairlane 500 as the design...ooh mama...

Thanks every one. Just thinking about it can you imagine the awesomeness of a GTO Pick up ?
Oh well, I'll just have to settle for the 'Vette
