interesting thoughts. It is interesting how an idea can catch on and grow so big.

I have a couple of points to make about the article.
First, I think it is excellent to start with the kids. When I worked in the schools, I was appalled to see what the parents never taught their kids. That kindergarten-age children were making their own lunches--and were bringing only junk. (And this was a middle-income institution) So, some of these kids may be hearing this info for the first time.
Second, I promised myself that my child would be sports-oriented. Fortunately, I gave birth to a child that really loves the outdoors and any physical activity--aside from lawn mowing. Excercise needs to be taught, not forced or kids will lose enjoyment.

Cool article. Sad that our country is in this state, but very cool that the whole community is getting the right idea.

I agree that healthy living should be taught more in schools. Phys Ed is a great place to start, but a lot of schools treat it as a blowoff hour. Of course food in the cafeteria should be healthy... but vending machines? That seems a bit over the edge. What about all the trim, non-obese people that exercise that extra bit so they can enjoy a double decker fudge round and whole milk? I know I am extremely biased because I am skinny, I can eat whatever I want, and will not gain any weight at all. I think it should start with exercise before altering diets. It is a lot easier to get people to do fun activities (sports, etc) than get them to lay off the grease cookies (fast food burgers). Enough ranting, I'm hungry now...
