Are you a member of your church or just a regular attender? Why or why not?
If you are a member, what did you have to do to become one.

No. Once upon a time I was a very active Presbyterian - elder for 3 years, Sunday School teacher for 5. The Paramedic was pursuing a career in the ministry as a Lutheran. Despite getting his master's in divinity, he chose not to go into that career. Very glad he made that decision.
Long story short: through my experience and through his, I've seen the church from the inside, as well as the outside, too well. Didn't like either view, so I no longer support organized religion. My church is now that of the roads.

I am a member of our church. I had to attend a pastors class, have an interview with a member of the church staff (more like a hi, any questions type thing) and then be presented to the church (as in coming to join us today is...). If I wasn't already baptized, then that would have been done then.
I became a member to show my commitment to this church, and to become further involved. My husband is a regular attender. I have doubts he will ever join, but that's fine with me.

Member, since we are Catholic it was a matter of going to the rectory and filling out some forms. Not a regular attender.

......Not if we're going to remain members of the fastest growing religion in the world, my boy... You see, we believe... well, let me put it like this...
[sings]
There are Jews in the world,
There are Buddhists,
There are Hindus and Mormons and then,
There are those that follow Mohammed,
But I've never been one of them...
I'm a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics,
Is they'll take you as soon as you're warm...
You don't have to be a six-footer,
You don't have to have a great brain,
You don't have to have any clothes on -
You're a Catholic the minute Dad came...
Because... Every sperm is sacred, Every sperm is great, If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate.

Funny...when I lived in KY the membership was more of the snake handling type! (Man do I miss that state!)

I don't really believe much in organized religion per se. Every so often I go to a church that lets me sit and think, but I don't belong as a member.

Heck, at my church, we jumped the pews WITH rattler in hand...
I dated a guy from Eastern KY. (Martin Co. for the Kentuckians) and we went home for a family event one Sunday. The women had to sit in the back of the church, and there were snakes. We didn't date much longer.

Heh. Actually, as a teen, I was forced to go to Pentecostal church. No (legless) snakes there, but I like to play with reptiles whenever I can. :P
