This should probably be someplace else. Is anyone else in severe, chronic pain? We're at a standstill. Larry is supposed to be getting a big fat well-deserved bonus (he turned a restaurant losing money into one making wuite a bit, AFTER the CPA did his BS accounting). I know ir's BS, as I used to be the controller and never saw the likes of this in my life.

My surgery is contingent upon when we can move.

I am going to a rheumatologist and pain management specialist in about 2 weeks. BUt I hurt. So badly that all I want to do is sleep. But I cannot sleep, because of the pain.

I have the strongest thing that is available before Oxycontin and I am sh$t scared of it. Larry keeps saying that as long as I don't get a buzz from it (which I do not) and take it properly (which I do) that I won't get addicted. The Dr says the same.

Depending on ho much this bonus is, we could be outtie before hurricane season and in Charleston (where he got his hips replaced.) If it is suck, we are here another year. I just started a new job about two months ago.

I just want my life back. I don't trust the Drs down here, and am seriaously considering a lawsuit, since I can no longer flex my right toes after the Surgery in October.

ANy advice would be nice.

Wow K, that sucks so much. I have no advice other than to take care of yourself the best you can, and take comfort in the support of Larry.

I haven't really been sleeping well since December because the pain keeps me awake, and when I DO sleep, I inevitably can't stay in a good position, so I wake up in worse pain, which makes going to bed dreadful.

All I can say is that I was on Oxycodone for a little more than 2 months, and it wasn't relieving my pain enough for my tastes considering that it, too, can be habit forming.

I don't have any advice, just empathy Sad I still don't sleep well. I should be having surgery here fairly soon, and I'm REALLY hoping that it relieves the pain...

All you people with unmanaged pain! Sad

What are you on? I work with cancer patients (cancer = some of the worst pain) and we give much stronger than Oxycodone. I've told you before I think you first need to manage your pain first, get through surgery and healing and then deal with any dependence or tolerance issues that may be lingering (and may not be, fyi) later. Maybe I have the wrong perspective, but I do know that pain, particularly uncontrolled chronic pain isn't just being whiny, like it may seem from your own perspective but it can have physiological effects, your sympathetic nervous system gets involved causing increased blood pressures (see the basketball coach thread why you don't want high BP), heart rate, etc etc etc. Its bad for your health to have chronic pain.

Every doctor and practitioner has their own preferences and theories, but since your surgery is put off for a while, I would think they would put you on a schedule of varying amounts of scheduled doses of something, say oxycodone and/or vicodin to keep your pain level at a steady state, one that is functional, not just in a painkiller induced nap constantly. And then something else for "breakthrough" pain when the baseline doesn't cover it. This keeps the pain at a manageable level. Also, letting the pain med wear off then starting up again isn't always great either, its hard to get on top of it again. Another way to prevent this is what is called Fentanyl, which is an analgesic patch that works for (I think?) 24 hours giving a steady dose.

Hang in there and take care of this!! You don't have to live like this.

Cheryl - I have a scrip for 10 mg oxycodone and 325 acetominophen (Endocet is the generic for Precocet). I also have Indocin, which as I am sure you know is a antii-inflammatory, and patches which are not Fentamyl, but Lidocaine. I go to the new doc April 24. I hope. I am on the waiting list. Hopefully more quickly.

I miss Columbus, because OSU was right around the corner from where we lived. They had excellent drs and orthos and...well, everything. You are going to make a great nurse.

Thank you for your advice. It's so hard getting into see someone down here because of then insurance issues, the wait, and the fact that I can no longer drive very far because my feet hurt too much. Larry has to go. Seriously, it's dangerous. After the surgery he went with me to Miami to have my foot shot up with cortisone and some gout crap and I

1) passed out

2) had no feeling in my foot so I could not control the car properly.

I don't like to put others and myself at risk. Larry is working 90 hour weeks right now so we go when he can work it in, but he is good at telling people that he HAS to go. The bigger problewm is getting into see someone decent and on our insurance. (Believe it or not, and you can look this up, a lot of drs in the Keys and even south Miami don't take moth health insurance.)

We're already poor as bums from paying off our co-pay on Larry's hip surgery. We'll be paying for a while. Stupid health insurance.

They SAY it will be on next Friday's payroll. If it is indeed the amount promised AND they gross it up it will be decent enough with our continued savings to get us out by July 1 - 31. If they do it net...well, it won't.

I don't trust these people. I used to work for them also. I was the controller for the resort and the restarants and I have seen them do some shady crap. That was one of the resaons that I left. I had guilt pangs every night and was in constant anxiety over getting busted doing something shady and committing an ethics violation and losing my CPA certification forever. After about a month, the bad dreams went away. I DO NOT trust them.

I've seen them stop pay on people's last checks, fire people for no reason, withhold W-2's (including mine, until I left a nice message about calling the IRS on their asses). I've also seen some damn shady accounting. LArry took this place, which was losing money, and turned it into the black (and it should have been in the black a LOT more, but due to the consolidation of certain people's personal expenses into the restaurant it does not look as good as it even should.) I know way more than I ever wanted to know about these businesses. If they had more brains, they would also realize that I know. Their ignorance and assumptions that I didn't know what was going on helps me sleep at night.
