Posted: 12/23/03 - 13:04 Post subject: Christmas blessings (WARNING: HIGH sap content)
I've gotten two emails today from very, very good friends who are more like family to me than my birth family that made me cry. The one was titled My Annual Reminder and it was about being thankful for what really matters around the holidays--and every day, really, but more so evident around the overcommercialized "gimmeness" of the Christmas season. The other had more of the same sentiments and was equally as moving. Both of them put this into words so well that I wanted to ask you all to contribute your own thoughts to the topic, just to remind us that it really isn't the beautifully wrapped presents or the carefully baked cookies or the HUGE bills we are all going to get in January that are the true spirit of Christmas.....it's the people we share our lives with, who touch our hearts not just at Christmas, but every day, with their love and friendship and support, the laughter of the children in our lives, whether they are ours or someone else's, and the stories that those far older than us tell, over and over again, that we never tire of hearing. Without all of the wonderful, loving people I have in my life, I would truly be an empty person.
That's the true spirit of Christmas for me. What is it, really, for you?

is about:
the spirit of friendships near and far and
how small things mean big things.

me too.
On a random note, every time I here that verse I think of A Charlie Brown Christmas.
not church, not the Christmas sermon, not my faith....a cartoon thats probably not a good thing...
Charlie Brown: (shouting in desperation) Isn't there anyone out there who can tell me what Christmas is all about?
Linus: Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you. Lights, please. "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you this day is born in the City of Bethlehem, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will toward men'". That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie brown.
