I guess it's about time for me to get a pair of racing flats.

How does one go about finding what works for them? Is weight the biggest concern since almost all of my races are 4 miles at a time or less?

I think what type of foot you have/your gait is the biggest thing to consider. I overpronate just a tad and tend to pound my feet, so I need a well cushined shoe with lots of medial foot support. Asics Kayano X's work great for me. But everyone is different. Go to a runners shoe store and talk to the people there. I'm sure they can help you out.

BTW, if anyone knows of another good shoe like the Kayano, I'd be interested to know.

I don't know anyone who wears racing flats sorry. Do they even carry thm in a regular running store, I would think so? I've seen them in my Easy Bay catalog, that's about it. Interesting question though.

Most good running stores will have them, to answer your question JU. Usually they don't carry all brands though. My beloved Varsity Sports has just about everything but ASICS flats. Which I find odd, because at most of the races, the majority of people are wearing ASICS flats. I'd love to get some better information on flats, as I'll be purchasing some relatively soon.

Do you think a half marathon is too long to wear flats? I'm a very light runner, ~120-125lbs.

You're too late. I got my 2nd flat of the year on the way home yesterday. I ran over a hevy duty staple and it hit right at the side of my Kevlar tire strip and went into the tube.

Of course it was the back tire too. Mad

I'd say to stick with the brand your trainers are...provided you like them, which I'm assuming.
So if you're an Asics wearer, go for a pair of their flats.

Probably the thing to realize is they'll wear out pretty quick, so I'd recomend finding bargain binner if you can.
