I have only had two digital cameras in my life:
HP photsmart 315 (really old) but it does take good pics
Pentax optio 60 which I broke the screen on (not to mention it wouldnt take focused pics of my 10 month old niece).

Here is my issue. I have no idea which kind to get now. I am going to study abroad in England and I want to get some really great shots while I am there. So I bought a Nikon P2 and tested it a bit and now I am thinking that i might want to get an SLR camera. Anyone out there have an opinion that they would like to share. I am not sure I want to carry the SLR around but then again I want to get the great shots you can get with one. Let me know what you all think, and maybe it will help me decide lol because its driving me nuts!! Thanks for your help!

I use a Nikon D50 with a Nikor 18-55mm.

I also have a 70-300mm Zoom.

I take both personal and professional photographs with it. If you check around, you can get great prices on this models since the more advanced Nikons are out. If you get it from one of the camera shops on a deal, make darn sure they are not substituting a lesser quality lense. Insist on a Nikor lens.

I am still not sure if I want to lug around a camera of that size on my trip, its not as convenient as a small camera. But I am also not happy with the nikon I just bought. I figured that it would be a gread camera, but was very disappointed at its focusing ability. I took some shot around my room and it seems that it couldnt focus on a lot of stuff, the red AF would appear. And reading the reviews on the P2, that seems to be a common problem.

There is a small Casio camera that has a huge view screen and a lot of extra features. We use them at work to document equipment and shipments. I will try and get the model information Wednesday. It is such a good little camera, I bought one for my son last Christmas. Fits real nice in your pocket and comes with it's own dock/charger.
