To answer your question, Laur....the reason you are supposed to go onto a "plan", i.e. a couple times a week or once a week for whenever, depends on how bad the subluxation (part of your spine that is "out") is. If it's bad or has been maladjusted for years, the erector spinae muscles that run along either side of the spine need to be retrained to hold the spine straight. They are used to holding your spine in the "out" position, so one adjustment isn't always enough to fix everything. Once the spine gets put back over a period of time, the results are amazing.
I saw my xrays, before and after, and my lower spine was so subluxated that it was causing a hip imbalance, one leg sat up higher than the other and was therefore "shorter" and that was the cause of my hip pain and my recurrent stress fractures in the left leg. Once he fixed it, and straightened my lumbar spine, no more problems, no more pain. Now I go back once a month just for a tune-up because I don't really do enough core work to keep everything strong around the middle. And I can always tell when my neck is out of place because I get wicked tension headaches and a lot of tightness in my shoulders. I think it's great, but I know people who have been to real quackos that try to sell you all sorts of expensive supplements in the name of "holistic health" and ones where it's just a crack factory, in and out and no other therapies. I get heat and electrostim (TENS unit) treatments with the adjustments. It's great.
