Posted: 10/13/02 - 17:50 Post subject: Chicago Marathon
I ran in the Chicago Marathon this morning. Unlike my post 2 weeks ago, I never had the thought, "Why am I doing this" go through my head! I only had positive thoughts (probably due to the tremondous support from the croud).
My first mile was 30 seconds too slow (7:33). After that, I was kicking out 6:30s-6:45s for many miles. I broke my previous PR for the half-marathon (was 1:2 by one minute (now stands at 1:27). Unlike my marathon last year, I did not hit the wall at mile 21. Instead I was able to keep running at a 7:00-7:18 pace between miles 21 and 24.
My overall time blew my previous PR (3:15) away by 17 minutes!! I pulled of a 2:58 marathon and qualified for Boston in the process. I finished 725th overall, 668th in the male group, and 83rd in my age group.
Soreness afterwards? Not really. If I sit for a while, my legs will get a little sore. Once I start walking, they loosen up fairly quickly. Tomorrow may be interesting though.

Thanks guys and gals.
Today was a slow day both moving around campus and running. I made it to all of my classes and even got a few miles of running done. I'm eating bananas and drinking more water than usual. Not because of being thirsty, but just because I want to flush out the soreness.
Tomorrow will probably be the worst day for the soreness. I just keep telling myself that what I can do now even in the soreness will make me stronger in the end (as long as I do not over do it).

Great job, Koby! Just don't rush yourself back into things. Your body will love you for giving it a break.
