OK, gang, with two weeks to go it is time to start the planning for Riff Raff Fest 2004 in bee-you-ti-ful center city Chicago!!!! fubby

A few details to be worked out yet:

1) I need a headcount for Saturday dinner. We've decided on Giordano's, which has come highly recommended by several of the natives and not-so-natives, and they have a wide variety of choices for those of us who don't need to carbo load, but they do have pasta for you runner-types. Wink
LC or Gdawg, can you post the address, I'm not sure which one you guys suggested......

Who's in and please let me know how many people will be coming with you, I'd like to make reservations since there will be so many in town for the race this weekend!

It's early to bed for the runners that night, but the rest of us can go play if y'all want to, after dinner. I'm open to suggestions from the locals as to where a good location near Grant Park would be to go out.

For the non-runners and any spouses who'd like to join us, we'll be heading up to Michigan Avenue for some shopping after the race starts Sunday. As long as we can get down to the finish line to cheer in our runners, time and meeting place are flexible. Deb and I are staying at the Essex right near Grant Park, which is the start/finish, so I am hoping to get up early to see our crew and maybe the CR crew off.

2) Sunday after the race, we're hoping to hit Oven Grinders for some of Chicago's famous deep dish pizza and then head off to the Navy Pier party which starts at 6:00. Gdawg, since you're our resident marathon expert, where's the best place to meet? Should we meet at the Essex or all meet at OG's?

And most important, do we need to order our Navy Pier Party tickets in advance or can we get them when we get there?

Any lurkers or newcomers to the site who are locals or who will be in town to run the race, please consider coming out to join us--you're more than welcome and this crew is always a lot of fun!!!!

Questions/comments/suggestions....post away....and let me know ASAP about Saturday dinner and maybe approximately how many for Sunday lunch at Oven Grinders.

Oh, and PM me your cellphone #'s if I don't already have them so we can all keep track of each other!

I won't be able to make it for dinner on Sat. as I'll be with the Fort Worth crew. (if your restaurant takes reservations you may want to call. Lots of places we called were booked solid!)

I'd love to meet up with you guys at the Navy Pier, if not earlier. Heck, maybe I'll just jump out of the race and join you shopping. Very Happy

Can't wait!

Here's the dope - and I don't mean myself.

Two Giordano's downtown look promising (although if these can't be reserved, there are others in the Loop as well). The two are 236 South Wabash, and 223 West Jackson. If we get a good head count quickly, LC can call on reserves tomorrow - she doesn't work 'til one.

Post-marathon, I think meeting at the Essex and heading over to OG would make more sense as I would need to shoewr and all. (thanks again)

And yes, tickets can be bought in advance at the Expo. $10 a pop. Paying at the party door is $15.

PM with phone numbers are on the way!

I think I'll be able to make it to Saturday dinner. I don't know yet what time I'm getting into town. It will either be around 10am or around 7pm. Depends on if I skip out of cross country practice Saturday morning.

OK, it looks like this will be the crew for dinner.....I estimated for TreKay and ginchy since they haven't gotten back to me yet (ginchy, yours included the kiddies, I didn't know if hubby was coming too or not....so let me know!)

me
Jacked
The dawgs - 2
koby
Trekay fam - 5 (counting Brad if he wants to come)
ginchy fam - 3

total: 13 If I forgot anyone, or anyone else wants to come PLEASE let us know and we'll add you to the count. I assure you that you weren't left out on purpose, I'm just going on who responded here and in PM. Thanks Gdawg and LC for volunteering to call for reservs. Please be sure to let us know which one you booked!! Wink

We also still need a firm time to meet at the Expo (we'd be going to dinner from there)....any suggestions? Is there a Giordano's near there since we're already out there?

Saturday dinner announcement

Genie - there's a Giordano's in Hyde Park, but the one we'll go to is closer to McCormick (where the Expo is).

Dinner - 5 o'clock Saturday. Giordano's at 225 West Jackson - easy to find as it's kitty-corner from Sears Tower. Reservations for 13 people and at least one booster seat. Twisted Evil

It's going to be tight for me. That gives me 5 hrs to make it from Richmond, Indiana to Chicago. I may leave Richmond earlier then I planned.

Don't rush it. The festivities will go on for a while, I'm sure. It's just those of us who are racing will leave early, that's all.

Mapquest says 4hrs 16mins to make the drive from Richmond to Chicago. Cross country practice is scheduled to end at noon so if I get out of there a little early, I should be good.

Genie, I still have your cell number. Do you still have mine?
