Posted: 06/06/06 - 15:57 Post subject: Chemistry humor... updated with quiz/test scores!
Ok, I cannot really find anything funny about chemistry, but I did just want to share that of the 23 polyatomic ions I have to freakin memorize, I've just about got them all down. For some reason, phosphate is so hard to remember (it shouldn't be), but I've got the rest of them pretty much under control. Only a few dozen rounds with flash cards, a dozen pages of writing them over and over, and 8 (of 12) self-quizzes later, no less.
Chemistry is teh suck. Of course, I've spent so much time on this danged 30-point quiz that I will probably bomb the 100-point test (both of which are tomorrow at 8:15am). Pray that his test is multiple choice! (Although, I am studying notes, powerpoints, and end-of-chapter questions for the test... God helps them who help themselves, you know...)
What gosh-awful thing are you doing today? Or avoiding doing?

What? nothing funny about chemisty? how so? it is loaded with good times, ionic bonds, covalent bonds.. great stuff!
I'm avoiding work, so much that I took time out to look up the different bond times in chemistry.

Well, I remember it by thinking that the -ites are one atom lighter because the -ate "ate" it. Very dorky, but it seems to work for me. Charges are trickier. Memorization and repetition are the keys. I wish I'd have been studying for the past 2 weeks, when I first learned about it, not just this past week.
Luckily, this is it. I got the 30/30 on the periodic elements quiz, now just need to get 33/33 on this one (we're also doing that mono/di/tri etc. to deca) and we have no more quizzes. Just tests.

A hydrogen atom walks into a bar. The bartender asks, "What's wrong?"
The hydrogen atom says, "I lost my electron!"
Bartender replies, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm positive."

Isn't it also a visual thing? Positives on one side and negatives on the other? Or was it by column... I hated Chemistry.

just remember the hydrogen atoms are seperated by a 108° angle from one another. and they bond covalently.

I'll write this on my quiz. Maybe he'll give me extra credit.
Actually, and I've not seen this yet, but I've heard he gives extra credit by way of 80s music trivia. I could SO do well in this course if that's the case.
He's a cool guy in spite of being Satan's spawn. We listen to AC/DC during labs. He plays air guitar and does the headbanging bit.

I saw this in Reader's Digest a couple of years ago.
A college professor (let say Chemisty) announced to his new class that there would be periodic "little quizzies." Well, the first "little quizzie" came and many students found it harder than they though a quiz would be. One female student commented out loud, "If that's one of his 'little quizzies,' I'd hate to see one of his 'big testies!'"
After which the embaressed woman never came back to class.
