Posted: 09/03/05 - 14:49 Post subject: Charity 1/2 Marathon RR
This is a small, no frills, but well organized 1/2 marathon. I would say there was more like 30-40 runners in the 1/2.
It was a beautiful day for running, cool temps, low humidity. Rob and I couldn't really come with our usual pre-race excuses for this one.
This is a nice course. Rolling hills and pretty Ohio farmland as far as the eye can see. Some of the hills were more like very long gradual increases than hills.
My splits:
8.58
9.07 I am running right behind a group of 4, who seems to be running a nice consistent 9 min miles. This is great!
8.57
9.03
9.24 They start to pull away from me, up a gradual incline.
9.19 I come to the second water stop. They only have Gatorade. Undiluted. In little shot cups (or so it seemed.) I take a shot, and then wonder how long it will be before I take the pit stop.
9.30 The course is laid out well. Most of the race the sun is high in the sky, but it's mainly to our back.
9.37
10.10 The next water stop only has Gatorade too. I do another shot and realize within a 1/2 mile I need to stop at the Nature's Port o'Potty. I trip coming across the ditch from the cornfield and fall into the road. I realize this would be pretty funny if there was anyone actually around me.
9.37
10.09 This is the hill Rob was talking about. My hamstring wasn't happy here, but I realized I was heading down the homestretch now.
9.18 Around mile 12 I glance at my watch and realize I am not too far off from my last second goal of 2 hours, so I pick things up.
About mile 12.8, I have to cross the State Route. Which is the main drag through town. There's no traffic control. I have to come to a complete
STOP here. And there's traffic!!!!!!Both ways!!! I'm getting pretty cranky watching the folks ahead of me get farther and farther away. I feel like the frog in Frogger. Finally I decide to go for it,and get to the middle of the road and then kind of cut cars off. I'm pretty cranky now, and not moving over too much with cars coming toward me (I am already at the side of the road.)
Last mile 8.06
I finally spot the church ahead and give it all I have left, and finish in 2.01.19!! Very respectable. It must have been those early faster miles for me.
I too recieved a drinking glass with a church logo on it, but as it was 3rd place (with only 3 females in my AG) it's not as cool as 1st place.
Nice day, nice race, good to see Rob again.

You ran a good race Kim. I was lucky I didn't have traffic to deal with when crossing Rt 585. You didn't mention the dog.....

Good going, Kimba! I'm happy this one turned out so well for you, given your disappointment in the last half. That's as good as the AG award.
