You are SO in! Congrats. I have yet to have a marathon where somewhere the plan went out the window, and success was redefined. And redefined again. But you hit the nail on the head; you DID it. You finished your first marathon. And nice job on simply sucking it up and toughing it out. In my mind, that is what defines an athlete.

The variables to a great marathon really make it a lifelong pursuit. You done-did "your first" and likely already have a list as long as your arm on what you'll do different next time. Relish the aches today and give yourself some credit..you're a marathoner!

Way to freakin' go, Noley!!!! You did it...YOU are a marathoner!!!!! That in itself is an awesome feat. Think of everything else that's been going on in your life this past year--and you still managed to train for and run a marathon. I'd say that's pretty darn remarkable and I'm very proud of you!

Good job Noley! I think that it sucks that you had a tough time, but you came through it and finished! Isn't that a lot of what marathons are about? You never know how one is going to turn out and how your body might react so in addition to preparing as best as you can, you have to be able to adjust and adapt as you go along. I think that you did an awesome job!

In, is relative to the amount of pain you have today. If you are walking like a duck and a curb looks more like climbing a mountain than a curb, then you are in.
Your marathon started along time ago, the last 4 plus hours were just the extended chute to the finish line. All the feelings, the pain, the emotions are now just a distant memory.
A huge congratulations marathoner, the end has come.
Now starts the rest of your life as a marathoner.
Sheldon

Noley,!!!
You are completely in!! Congratulations on making it to the finish line. You have done something that about 99.999995 percent of the world can't say. Don't let yourself get to down. You did fantastic.
As you recover you will look back see what you did wrong and get ready for another one next year.
Have fun and enjoy saying I AM A MARATHONER!!

First of all, after having a day to reflect about Sunday's race, I wanted to thank all of you for your nice comments. It's very heartwarming to hear such kind things after I felt disappointed in how I did. When you are competitive, as I am, it's hard to accept any sort of "failures" that you encounter. I know I wasn't a failure when walking across that marathon line, but it was hard for me to swallow the fact that I didn't get out there and do what I set out to do. With that being said, I still want to thank you all for picking me up and getting me to look at things differently.
Secondly, I want to thank all of you who have supported me over these past 1.5 years with my training either publically or via PM. You don't know how much I do take in and think about with the advice I've been given. For the most part, people have been very complimentary and incredibly kind. I truly appreciate it and I try my best to reciprocate the sentiments when I can. Basically, just about everyone at RF has done this when I didn't think they were following what I was doing. For that, I thank all of you for what you have done.
Next, I wanted to also take the time to put a big plug in for the AZ RnR. What a great and wonderful race it truly is/was. For this being the second year, it went off great. You couldn't ask for better weather, a better marathon course with beautiful sights (hopefully the HalfM was better), great bands to keep you going, fantastic volunteers and outstanding crowds. This was top notch in my book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away to a warmer place to run in a winter marathon. My only regret is that I didn't take the time to smile, have fun with it and not take it so seriously. There were so many people smiling, laughing, living it up, dancing at each band they saw on the course, high fiving, etc. I should have done more of that and just took it all in. Next time I'm going to put my name on the front of my shirt so everyone can encourage me to do well. I ran next to a guy named Mike for miles. All I heard was..."Go Mike! You're doing great Mike. You can do it Mike". When I started to cry on that 22 and 23 mile...many people actually patted me on the back and told me encouraging things that put my head back into it to try to run the last 5K. What a great thing and great race.
Finally, I wanted to end this message with telling you how much I admire many of you and your accomplishments. What can I say? I have read many race reports and have been in awe when reading the outcomes. There are some here who leave my mouth dropped on the floor and I cannot fathom what it took for them to get the results they did. Anyway, you all are winners. Whatever you do to work at it, achieve your goals, cross those finish lines and get back out there to do it again gets my full respect.
Again, thank you. I'll take some time to see where I want to go from here. I will not be in training for quite some time, that's for sure. I'll just keep my weekly milege at a 26.2 average and decide later down the line what I want in this.
I appreciate this forum to learn, share, vent, reflect and support others.

Oh and...guess who finished 4 people in front of me???
Shonda Schilling!!!
She finished: 4:50.57 vs. me 4:51.10
I had her smoked at the HalfM and 20 mile though...
I bet Curt was standing right there at the finish as I crossed the line and I didn't even know it!

Noely you did great! It's always a challenge and now you have something to compare your next one to. We were talking at Disney and thought a different marathon next year may do us good. We're considering the AZ RnR. If we decide on that we'll see you there.

Hey Marcie...
Remember me?
OK, so you ran a marathon time that I am shooting for in June.
Great Job!
I ran the half again this year and really like the course better than last years. I had a PR by 23 minutes! I can only hope my San Diego Marathon time is as good as yours was this time. Whats the saying? "one persons trash is anothers treasure" LOL
Have a great one!
Christa

I've yet to experience the agony and the ecstacy of the marathon, so I can only imagine what it was like for you - a very inspiring report.
Congrats on your finish.
