I went into this race with few expectations. Based on the training I had been doing since the Tour De Pain, I figured I would run about a 42 minute race. I get here and see that the wind will be in our face heading south and then you will nothing (except feeling like you are in an oven) heading north. The thermometer in my truck says it is 80 degrees.

The gun goes off and I am running along smoothly. I hang with one of the guys I usually train with through mile 1. I am happy with my split but I wonder if I went out to fast. The other guy pulls away a little and I just try and sit on my pace. I hit mile 2 and I have dropped pace a little but not as bad as I thought I did. I hit the turn around and hit my split and I didn't bother looking at it.

I can see my training buddy in front of me about 100 yards. I work on trying to catch up but he has picked up his pace also. The best I am doing is maintaining the gap. I work through mile 3 and boy does it feel like an oven on the beach. Mile 4 comes up and since I can still see my training buddy I try and pick up the pace to see if I can catch him. I am still just holding the gap. I guess I didn't pick up the pace? dunno The half mile to go marker comes up and I hear another person on my heels that I normally beat so I pick up the pace some. At the 1/4 mile to go landmark I try and pick it up again to see if I can catch him. I pickup the pace but after just about 10 seconds I get that feeling like I am going to puke. I end up backing off some and I cruise into the finish line.

I FELT GREAT mentally this race!!!!! My pace was solid through out and I was really happy with my effort. Now in October when the temperature starts to drop I will reall start to kick a$$

Splits:
Mile 1: 7.44
Mile 2: 7.52
Mile 2.5: 3.54
Mile 3: 3.44
Mile 4: 7.44
Mile 5: 7.55
Total: 38.54

Age Group and Overall Place have not been posted on the website yet.
