This one is serious..
As soon as the boy and his lady move into their own place, I will need to clean the carpet.
Professional?
Carpet Doctor rental from Home Despot?
Cough up the $260.00 bucks for a good machine?
I should note the subfloor is composition board and will delaminate with too much moisture....

Totally cough up the money for your own carpet cleaner. I love mine. I don't use it as much here as I did in Charlotte (had white carpets there, whereas here I have almost astro turf), but it is handy. I use it about 4x a year to clean all of the carpets, and quite often just for spills & such.

We have a Bissell handheld for those once in a while spots. Works great.
We hired Stanley Steamer once and I was very disappointed and I will never hire them again.
Are the rug doctors easier to use than they were years ago?

I clean the carpets every year at the office with a rental unit (actually 2) from Home Depot. Works like a charm.

I'd hire someone. I've borrowed someone's carpet cleaner before and it was a huge PITA. Hired a company when we moved for the house we were selling and they did a great job. Will call them again.

I have tried 2 different companies and I wasn't real happy with the results so I have been doing it myself with a Rug Doctor from the grocery store.

So which carpet cleaner do your recommend for the money. I was not overjoyed the last time I had a carpet cleaner clean my carpets and if I'm buying something I prefer it to be good but not something with a lot of features I won't use. I have a simple 2 story townhouse - no fancy carpets.

Well, I am disappointed in my last two purchases, so I can tell you not to buy Eureka Atlantis -- it's the little thingies that allow for the water/detergent transfer. I'm sure there is a technical name, but they leak and drive me insane (and I did nothing to my knowledge to cause these things to leak). The one before this one had the same problem, but I cannot remember who made it.
I'm thinking my next one will be a Bissel ProHeat. This model has always been something I'd like to have, but always out of my price range. I probably won't buy a new one until we move next summer though.
They're really tricky purchases, IMO.
Now a vacuum, I can hook you up there. my Dyson.

I had my eye on the Bissel ProHeat as well.
So not it's down to rental from Home Despot, or a ProHeat...or was it ProHemp?

Get the ProHeat. Then you can tell me if I should buy it!
