This is a 5k/10k race sponsored by the Green YMCA and they give away a Caribbean cruise as a door prize. I doubt I'll be running this event again. Organization was poor, the start was a clusterfork and it took waaaaay too long at the end to hand out door prizes and awards. That is if they even knew who was supposed to get an award......

Arrive at course around 7:05 (8:00 start) and get my stuff. Do the usual pre-race ritual of warming up and stretching and head to start line with rest of crowd. Where we are subjected to a long winded preacher wannabe with a captive audidence. He's spouting off quotes from Teddy Roosevelt and off on a disjointed ramble that turns into a sermon that winds up with him imploring us to repent and to use this race as our way to get to know Jesus.
Then a nice young lady does a fine job singing the national anthem. And then preacherman tells us that at the sound of the siren the race will start. So we all hear "runner to your mark"...................... a faint siren sound and we all take off. Only to be herded back to the f'ing starting line because that wasn't the right siren or some damn thing. I'm ready to bust this guy in the chops by now. Finally they get the start right.

Mile 1 - 6:56 downhill, many turns and then back uphill
Mile 2 - 6:52 flat with more sharp turns
Mile 3.1 - 7:47 wtf... I didn't slow down that friggne much.
5k split is 21:35 on this two loop course.
MIle 4.1 - 6:59
Mile 5.1 - 6:53
Mile 6.2 - 7:28
Final time 42:55
I'm not happy at all with my time although my 2nd 5k was faster than the first. I've no excuses, I ran pretty crappy. I think I placed in my AG though - results should be straightened out and on-line later today.

I'm not going to run this event anymore, mostly because the course has too many sharp turns that force a runner to slow down and then accelerate again.

Edited to add:
At least I placed.

Shocked

Was this the first time this race was run?

Not bad times considering the course layout

7th year for the 5k, 1st for the 10k. I've run the 5k a few times and it was pretty well organized. I haven't been here for it the last two though and a buddy of mine says it's gone downhill. I think he was right.

teehee GO! no, wait, everyone come back for a do-over. i hate long-winded "starters" they really mess me up.

i think your splits are great, really even, especially considering the false start and sharp turns which are knee killers.

good training run for ya. beautiful weather, sorry it was a disappointment though.

I can see why you are disappointed. Neutral No excuse for poor orginization and the course sucked. Sorry. But still, not a bad time for you all things considered. Very Happy

Doesn't matter what they are talking about, captive audience or no, I hope I don't have to experience something like that.

I'll be kind and assume the people running it this year were organizing and doing their first race ever. Too bad it turned out the way it did.

Great job. I would have been Twisted Evil with the race directors for that awful start to the race.

Great job despite the poor organization and 'false start' ......

I hope you got a good shirt Mr. Green
