Posted: 03/17/05 - 14:57 Post subject: Cannabis Use
I am a relatively avid trail runner (30+ miles per week).
After nearly two decades of being totally drug free and I recently began using cannabis again - both during runs and at other times. I have not seen any negative effects (yet) and am curious if any other serious runners do the same. THanks.

When you say "during" the run, are you stopping to toke up?
Whether you're smoking weed or cigarettes, that's got to be hard on your lungs.

dude smoking, no matter what kind, hurts your lungs. you may not feel it now, you may not even feel any major effects soon, but slowly by slowly you are damaging your lungs and making it harder for you to breath

I'm sorry to hear that you've decided to go back to drugs. Why did you decide to go back?

Being high while you run trails can't be good for the coordination. You wearing a helmet?

Nah man, unless you've done tones you can still be coordinated...but still, I don't see why that would be a good idea. But drinking and running on the other hand, now thats really dumb. And it will effect your running for sure...but if you insist on doing it...which i don't reccomend...then do it like once a month or something. The high will be better and it won't destroy your lungs as much.

I kinda disagree with that based on my previous experiences (many years ago). I think it's all about how much you smoke, i.e. quantity and frequency. Back in the day, I smoked like a freaking demon and affected everything: coordination, ability to drive (which I wouldn't even attempt when I was high because I was so out of it), reflexes, and my breathing. I also have asthma so smoking of any type is, for me, a bad idea. I gave up pot a long time ago because I was liking it too much and didn't want to end up becoming dependent or moving on to anything harder. I wouldn't recommend it at all anymore, honestly. I also work with addicts and I see that most of them started out smoking weed and ended up getting bored with the high and going on to harder stuff.
How much do you normally smoke when you do?

I fully expect the pothead to log-in today and let us know he was April foolin'. He's certainly not wanting to elaborate in this thread.

Personally I couldn't take this post serious due to the screen name and think it's a joke. Who's going to come to a running forum to introduce themselves in their first post as a pot smoker? Some serious runner, eh?
