The latest Ipsos Reid survey of Canadian voters suggests Stephen Harper's Conservatives are within a few seats of winning a majority government, enjoying a 12-point lead over the Liberals, whose campaign struggles were compounded Monday when NDP Leader Jack Layton begged disaffected Grits to "lend" him their votes Jan 23.

I really hope, really hope, that the Conservatives do not get in this year. But really, We as Canadians don't really have a great choice this time around...
Also, to add - this election is worse than any Jr. high election I have ever wotnessed. They are all so childish!

From the coverage I've heard on the CBC, you all are amateurs as far as political candidates acting childish.
Doesn't matter if it's Liberal or Conservative, Democrat or Republican, 20 years straight of holding power is too long (haven't the Liberals been in control since '85?).

Karlene - i fully agree.
i'd like to be able to vote for Harper, but some of his 'other' beliefs really contradict my fundamental values in life.
would you be opposed to voting for NDP? it's my understand that that's a western thing, i'm not sure how the east coast people feel.
i live in a swing riding (you'll hear about St James/Charleswood on election night) and it looks like Fletcher is running away with it... by comparison i don't even know the name of the NDP guy. i have seen exactly ONE sign of his.
my biggest beef is the news coverage - no one is giving a whiff of the NDP or Green Party.
if you're interested in trying to deflate the conservatives a bit more http://www.thinktwice.ca/ send it out to as many people as you can by e-mail. it's making it's rounds...
ps. i am also horribly displeased with the negativity of the politics - if one leader would give me a vision to believe in, instead of slamming the other guy, i would be excited about voting and everything else. it's no wonder kids just don't care.

of the major parties... they are the only one that hasn't yet stolen my money, won't oppose some fundamental rights, and haven't messed up yet.
i wish a lot more canadians were willing to give it a try. i'm not sure what makes them unappealing to the rest of the nation (there's got to be some kind of principles in there that i haven't picked up on that other people don't like).
a few of us have mentioned that the Bloc would be a great party to vote for if only they didn't want Quebec out .
