there is no doubt about it....but please don't kid yourself that Bush didn't get a fair amound of ABK votes...all i need for evidence on that one is point out Genie's visceral dislike for Kerry and his wife...there was enough of that to give Bush some votes....i've talked to more of a handful of Bush supporters that were praying that Kerry could give them a reason to vote against Bush, because they feel he has made an absolute mess of the budget, iraq, etc...but unfortunately the dems failed to offer them a candidate that they felt comfortable with this time around...don't overestimate the popularity of this president based off of tuesday's results...that is my point here...and i think is something that repubs in the all branches of government would be wise in listening to...

I'm not overestimating his popularity. 3 million more Americans felt he was better suited to run the country than John Kerry. That in no way means that 51% of voters feel he's done a wonderful job, myself included.

The interesting thing about that map showing county wide votes across the nation is that Kerry took almost all of the population centers nationwide, even in otherwise very red states. Even in places like Idaho and the Dakotas, not to mention across the Deep South.

Outside of some rural counties with high Latino or American Indian populations, Bush took almost all of them.

Looking at vote by population density (avg. pop. per square mile):

Bush 61
Kerry 248

That is pretty standard procedure isn't it? Densely populated areas have leaned towards the Dems traditionally. Therein lies a big part of their problem - the country doesn't revolve around just the big cities.

Sonny, I saw a good bit of blue dappling in Georgia, too. How did your county go? Wink

Didn't you hear on NPR? - Gwinnett (home county for me and PH) went for W over Kerry by a 2 to 1 margin. Smile

83% of the counties in the state of Georgia favored Bush. We have the most counties of any state East of the Mississippi.

If he's in Gwinnett County like I am, it was 160,120 for Bush and 81,363 for Kerry.

82% of the registered voters turned out.

That's unofficial, however.

I agree. You can look at any way you want, but the rural people spoke. They may not be as highly educated or worldly...or any other description that you can think up, but they are entitled to one vote and one vote only.

Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob’ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities

All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity

Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic that’s me

But I’ve seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an l.a. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she’s small town just like me

No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who’s in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and that’s good enough for me

Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
