wait...you can calm your nerves? Shocked

generally, I don't get calm, I just acknowledge the nervousness and try to do the best I can.

Sometimes I can calm myself by thinking rationally about it or talking to someone else who is more rational than I. But sometimes I just have to stay nervous until whatever it is is done. On a long-term thing like dating, I bet it gets less-nerve-wracking the more you do it.

Rationalize exactly what it is I am nervous or worried about and the likelihood of those things happening.

Then when the nerves threaten to rear up again, I remind myself of why it's irrational to worry.

Sometimes, a situation just calls for nerves, unfortunately.

Racing jitters? Tie my shoes an ungodly amount of times...
New Job? Work like crazy and just get very absorbed...
Flying? White-knuckle it all the way...
Dating? I supposed just sweat like crazy and never show it...

Running helps all of the above.
Drinking...well...SURE.

First keep the mind occupied on other things - like a NY Times Xword.

Do something other than sitting there and worrying.

Think of a solution to the problem. Its probably why you are nervous in the first place.

Go run, walk, bike, skate etc etc.

Zone out and watch a favorite movie.
