Internet registration and posting of results. Not sure what kind of resources you have but that would be cool too.

i'm sure you've got a great "timer" joel, but this really helps get results together after finish ASAP. i've been to the second rate timer races and it's a big waiting for results which are usually never posted...then it takes a week to get them up on the internet.
also, i personally like when there is a masters' division for awards. it gives a self-serving person like me a much bigger chance of scoring an award in my age group when all those fast 40 somethings get their "masters award" (SHOW OFFS i tell you).
i wanna run your race.

The first 5K I ever did only had age group awards up the 35-39 category and then just one category for the 40+ group. They had just advertised "age group awards" for the race and when they were handing out awards and all the 40+ peeps figured out that they got lumped into one category, there were some people.

Joel,
I agree with Cappy. Don't know what kind of resources you have availible, but I used this website.
www.allsportrunning.com
They did a nice job, and didn't charge too much for the services. Something that you could check out.

SC, You genius!!!
FLA...Rocky is hard...You're the Inspiration by Chicago is in
Cappy and coach, yep, they'll definitely be online registration and we'll post the results directly from the local Red cross website.
RR and crew, I haven't put much thought into what the age groups should be so if you want to give me some examples, that'd be great!

It's tired, it's worn out, and it is just SO OVERUSED! Oh, and I personally cannot stand the stupid song.
Make your race different from every other stinkin' race in this country and play something different. Something funky, or trance, or dance. Something with a good beat that you can dance to. |
and while we're on the subject, please skip "Against the Wind," "Eye of the Tiger," and "Born to Run."
Don't just skip 'em. Ban 'em outright.

Alright already! No one likes songs for their kitsch factor, I get it!! I guess I haven't been to enough races that play music, I had no idea...
How about "the distance" or whatever that song was by Cake?

I know it can't be done, but I think playing a little AC/DC Hell's Bells would be hella tight.

age groups: aren't you doing the 30-34 35-39 40-44 45-49 thing??
i hate when they do the decade thing........
also, masters takes the best three male and female 40 and over times and they get the "masters division" award. I love this cuz it gives all those fast 40 somethings a chance at an overall and they aren't competing with the 20 year olds. (and they aren't competing with the plodders like me either! ) Result: all the old peeps are smiling.
i'd guess you'd really have to have a larger race to justify this...maybe.

Another thought shelfie, is to maybe have some sort of expo before or after the race. Invite some of the local running/sporting goods stores to sell some stuff (we know you like stuff). Runner always love bargains. Its a win/win for you and the companies

if this was a bigger race it'd be a good idea and perhaps down the line I'd like to explore this. We may offer some vendor space to area health clubs and such (Curves, even the Ymca)....
and by the way...Rocky is 'hard'...was a TOTAL typo and nobody picked up on it...It was supposed to read Rocky is 'out'. and

how about the Gary Glitter song that they play at the pack games???
For preregistered runners...you might want to think about having preprinted names in large letters rather than the numbers. I mean really, what does anyone care what someone's number is????? I've run marathons that volunteers and spectors are like "go 21".......how about "go Sue" Fox Cities will have that this weekend...I can run imagining that I'm the crowd favorite
If there's money in the budget---colored t-shirts!! They'd be a walking billboard for future years because people will wear them.
