The 2nd time for this race. Got up at 4AM and drove 2 hr. south of Atlanta for the race. Got there in good time, found my transition spot...blah, blah, blah.

It starts raining right before the race started. Neutral The RD warns us that the bike loop is a two loop course and each loop has 7 90o turns. in.the.rain.

Anyway, gun goes off (not really). The rain intensity increases and we're off along the road. First 5K in 18:29. I'm not too far back, so I don't have too much bike traffic to fight.

T1 in about a minute or so. Very wet.

Out on the bike, I'm just trying to not get passed. It's raining really hard and I don't want to crash. 1st loop was uneventful except for seeing a turtle in the roadway.

2nd loop the rain lets up a little bit more. I push a little, but not a lot because the roads are still wet. I got passed a few times because I suck on the bike. Just hung on and promised myself I'd gain ground on the 2nd run. 51:00 for the bike.

In and out of T2 in about a minute. Had to rip the insoles out of my racing flats because they were wet and wrinkled up. Nothing like running 3 miles in nearly bare feet.

2nd 5K is where I was able to catch some of the faster riders. Passed a handful of guys and then I was by myself. 2nd 5K in 19:11.

Ended up 9th OA and 3rd in my AG. No overall awards, the 1st and 2nd place guys in my AG were also the 1st and 2nd place OA guys.

Nice race, but I'm glad it's over.

My friend Geoff and I -- he got 3rd in his AG too. He's way strong on the bike.

You are hella fast! Way to go. Didn't you say you wanted to be in top 10 overall? You did that!

I was hella stoked when the announcer called out that I was the 9th place finisher as I crossed the finish line. I thought I was closer to 13-15th place.
