Once again I got to hook up with some RR babes for a race.
Kimba and Roughause are probably two of the nicest people you'll ever meet and pretty damn good runners to boot.
Temps on the 45 minute drive up were in the upper 40's and it misted the whole way. Fortunately the rain went away shortly before arriving at the course and the temp I would guess got as high as 50. I was early so I spent some time roaming around and loosening up. Finally ran into Kim and we sat and chatted for a bit in her car. We hooked up with Roughausen a bit later - where else but waiting in line at the crapper
Oh well, gotta get the serious business out of the way.
Some stretching and a warm-up and then we got to stand in line at the start for a good 15 minutes or so. No idea what the delay was but I had to keep in perpetual motion to stay warm. Finally the race started w/o even a gun or anything - I just noticed everyone in front of me starting to run. Lots of congestion at the start but it thinned out about a 1/2 mile in.
Splits:
7:20
7:01 (mile marker was short I think)
7:44 (made up for the short one here)
7:02
7:14
7:18
7:11
7:07
7:16
7:06
7:15
7:31 yes I started fading here
7:36 yes I was struggling at this point
:42 something for the last two tenths
Final time 1:35:32
I'm happy with my time although I had hoped to break 1:35. I pr'd by around 8 minutes and this only my second half that I've run. I left everything on the course, no second guessing on could I have done this or that to come in faster. Right now my quads feel like somebody beat on them with a hammer for a while....... I know what I need to do get better and I'm looking forward to the spring racing season.
Many thanks to RAS - her training wisdom has helped me immensely.
And thanks to Kim and Sarah, I look forward to racing with them in the future. And double thanks to Kim for buying my beer at the Brew Kettle afterwards - I owe her one.

You richly earned a drink for that 1.35 1/2 marathon.
Just to make sure everyone else knows, we know you can run short distances fast.
Now we know you can go the distance and run long distance fast too. Time to work toward that marathon distance!!
You did great today, Rob, I was so happy for you.

rob - congrats on the pr! You ran a really smart race - what a nice way to go into the winter, feeling good about your running and ready to work on new goals. Akron or Columbus 2005?!
Thanks again for the ride back to my car - after the race it seemed like the overflow lot was in East Kackistan and would have taken me a long time to hobble back there!

I would've had to hitch a ride back to where you were parked. No way was walking that distance in the program. Akron 2005 would be a good thing....
