The baby next to Abby(the next room) is going to die today. The nurses have all of the "code" drugs ready and the paddles were checked to make sure they are ready to go. I walked by the parents and their faces told me all I needed to know. What could I say to them. I left their very sad. This is the second time we have been there that Abby's next door patient will die.
Though I know how the parents feel, it does not make them feel any better. I really hand it to the nurses that deal with that stuff all of the time.
It is one thing dealing with kids who hurt themselves but these young ones who just are born with the world against them that is what upsets me. Life is too precious, I came home and gave extra hugs to my two healthy kids.
Do me a favor today please, if you have kids give them a extra hug and kiss for me please. Thanks

Sometimes, its a sad place most of times that I have been there.
Extra hugs for my 2 tonight and virtuals to all the rest of the RR kids out there.

Our department chair at CHC came from there and said the same thing. I am actually going to look into volunteer opportunites at CHOP once I go back to school.
Even though I do not particularly want to have children myself, I love kids and cannot even begin to imagine the pain it is to lose one.
Hugs to all the mini Riff Raffers......

nothing more brutal than a stroll through the pediatric intensive care unit in a major children's hospital. i was through Duke many times -- i always left feeling like diabetes was a blessing. I thanked God many times for giving us a condition we could literally live with.
nurses in those units area angels. no other word to describe them.
