Our Target special 3-disc player has given up the ghost. And with Mrs jrjo's b-day next week, I'm lookin' at replacing it. Without going overboard on big dream systems, what's your "o' reliable" for playing cd's? The home built system? Boombox? Brands..reviews.. all appreciated. Very Happy

I've been using this old Sony 'one-piece' (5 disc changer, dual cassette etc...) for over 10 years...It's survived about 6 moves and it'll be a sad day when it dies...

My old Sony 5 disc changer gave it up a couple years ago and my Sony 1 disc boombox gave it up last year, so i'm currently without a cd player (because my Sony discman gave it up, too).

Notice a pattern with Sony products here?

Mr Aire bought me a neat boombox at Target that plays MP3s as well as CDs so I can have a huge disk filled with different kinds of music to get me through my day.

I have a Sony 5-disc changer that has been going strong for about 8 years. I mainly use my DVD player for CDs now, though.

I have a panasonic boombox that has been going strong for 14 years now. Other than that my DVD player plays CDs.

Sony all the way. I have the very first Sony 5-disc changer that came out. I got it in 1990, I believe - still going strong for this former professional DJ.

Yeah, you can get a DVD/CD player, with a nice set of speakers and everything for @ $300. It all depends on what you want...you could spend less or more, I went with a middle of the road price.

Yup. Even planning on getting a 5-DVD changer and replace the old Sony. It's all about convergence, dude.

Heh, I just installed my first CD player (actually my kid hooked it up). It's an older Kenwood 5 disc changer with a remote and get this - it's not even a wireless remote. It was new in the box at the house forever since all my stereo equipment was banished to the basement or garage several years ago i never hooked it up. So therefore, I can provide you with no useful advice.

I must admit though, my old Pioneer 100 watt receiver and speakers can still raise the roof and sounds clear as can be. It blows the doors off these so-called 300 watt units my kids have acquired.

Heck yeah, dude! My receiver is a 120-watt Realistic from the 70s. I got it from a neighbor who was moving away 12 years ago. I think it was one of the last ones to use vacuum tubes. I've had to replace those suckers once. Those tubes were expensive as hell, but the bass and tonal quality is smokin'!

Our CD player is a 101 disc changer, hooked up to the Kenwood. We use it a fair amount, but with the computers having music capability, we use them probably more than half the time, since 2 of the desktops have Klipsch speaker systems hooked up to them. Those speakers are far better than the ones hooked up to the home theatre system, and they can make the windows shake. Wink

edited to add that the cd player is a Pioneer. Very cool because it will display the contents of said player (via the television) if you feel like typing it in to the program using the remote. PITA to get it programmed, but neat if you want to see what you have in there without having to get up, open, see what is where. Random feature rocks since we can listen for days and not hear the same thing twice.

Not counting the one on our computer or the one in the Jeep, I have a Sony Discman that has served me quite well. Our little stack of music stuff at home has an Aiwa player, and my wife has a boom box of unknown make. Those three in about the right order of decreasing quailty.
