If you were buying baby clothes for your very first child how much is the MOST you would spend on an outfit?

I was looking through Craigslist just now and saw this post where this person had spent $75 on an outfit (and it wasn't even a very cute one...just name brand) and was selling it for $15. I wouldn't have even spent $15 for this particular outfit let alone $75. I'm assuming this is the lady's first child because nobody in their right mind would spend that much on a second (third, etc.) child.

What is the most you would pay for one outfit?

For a first child? Only one really nice picture outfit--and no more than $30.

For the rest of the clothes: a second-hand shop or thrift store.

They grow out of it so fast.

We haven't paid a cent for clothes for our little girl. Between gifts and hand me downs from friends our daughter has twice the amount of clothes as my wife and I combined.

Newborn clothes = rip off

Some stuff she grew out of within 2-3 weeks!

My wife worked for Gap Kids while she was pregnant. She may have got a 30% discount, but "we" still bought the whole friggin store.

As for the most "we'd" spend, not sure. I just bought a new snowsuit for $80, but I wouldn't skimp on that. If you want to see expensive outfits, go to Gymboree. Ouch.

$2.75 for a three-pack of white onesies. Anything more is a waste of cotton.

My sister had 2 girls. Between the hand me downs from the first plus additional gifts for the second (and the fact that the second baby was HUGE when the first was teeny tiny) there were entire outfits second baby never got to wear before she outgrew them.

Based on her garage sale of baby clothes last weekend (like hotcakes), I think garage sales might also be a good place to find cheap baby clothes in reasonable condition.

first baby....cripes, I was lucky if he got a chance to wear something more than once. I'm always tempted to buy bigger clothes for gifts, because newborn clothes are not practical, but I always think that if I present a cute outfit that says 24 months or 2T the mom will think I'm weird or I got it on sale.
