Two words will sum this one up: I sucked. No excuses, I just plain stunk it up.
Not a bad morning for a race, a bit overcast, 60 degs and somewhat humid. The race is run thru the roads of the Cuyahoga Valley Nat'l Recreation Area and is pretty scenic for ne Ohio. Hooked up with Kimba once again, did the usual pre-race chatter, stretching and warmup. I felt pretty good and was fully expecting to put out a good low 1:30's effort. Man was I hallucinating.....
First six miles went fine, crossed the 6 mile mark at an even 7:10 pace. I had hoped to be just under 7:00 but I was okay with 7:10. Mile 7 had some hill action that slowed me down to a 7:25 and things went to hell from there on. Mile 8 was a 7:29, mile 9 was 8:02, mile 10 was 7:59, mile 11 was 7:53 and the last 2.1 miles was in 16:27 as I missed the mile 12 marker. Final score was 1:39:00 for a 7:33 pace. No idea where I placed in AG or overall and I don't really want to know. Time to put this effort out of my mind and focus on bigger and better things.

hmmmmm....didn't you just race a few weeks ago????? I'd put it down as a good training run, at our age it's just hard to set PRs at the 1/2 when you are putting in miles for marathon and racing. take it easy for a few days 'kay?

Everyone hits what they think is a clunker of a race from time to time. I'd be very happy with those times.
Put it out of your mind other than doing what Sue said - treat it as a training run. Better success for you next time.

there's no denying you had adequate training, maybe the can-do attitude was left at home
sorry it left you disappointed but it's still a great effort and time. good training run, 2 weeks out.

Rob...
Don't be disappointed in this. I know how driven you are for PR's and faster times, but you're in marathon training. There's so much to it really. You're still faster than hell, IMO.
I think you did great. You're getting closer to that 26.2 and you're putting in some respectable milege and races getting there. It's an entirely different ball game when it comes to this than the shorter races.
I'm proud of you and all you've done.

You went well under marathon pace a week after your last 20 miler - sounds like you are more than ready to tear up the course in Akron.
I just did my last 20 miler and I'm tired - no way could I run that strong of a half this weekend....

Can't smell like a rose everytime. Nothing to be ashamed of in stinkin' it up. Next one, next time, you'll slap that course silly.

I wish I could stink up a half that fast.
Looking forward to your marathon report!
