Posted: 03/24/06 - 19:19 Post subject: Brie & JM 1, Silly College Girls 0
Most of you know that I attend a small women's college. You probably know too that my guy is on staff at this college. It's been common knowledge of both staff and students for about 6 of our almost 7 months that we're dating. There is no policy against it, and we are generally not together on campus, and even when we are, we are professional about it. We're not into groping in front of other people, on campus or not.
At any rate, our little girls love to talk about this relationship. We don't care too much, because we know that they're kids. We only care when they go running to our CAO about it, because then she comes to us and tells us not to talk about it. Well, we don't talk about it. We're not about to rub anyone's faces in this. We're just doing our thing, and from time to time, we're spotted at lunch or the movies or having dinner. These girls just know we are dating, so they talk about it. I cannot help that I am surrounded by overweight, sad and pathetic girls who have nothing better to do than to get up in our business.
This week our relationship was addressed at two meetings--a first to our knowledge. One was our student gov't meeting, the other was the meeting the college officers (including our president) have every week. Evidently Sr. Joan (president) is appalled that the girls are still discussing us, and had some colorful words to say on the matter. This is the woman who greeted both JM and I at the annual President's dinner in December and was glad to see us (although I am likely the first campus student to attend this dinner). The woman who does not care that a 35-year-old student is dating a staffer who would never be in a position to influence grades, transcripts, etc. She has made it known to all of the officers that this is a non-issue and they are to tell the faculty and staff to tell the girls to find something else to discuss. About time!
So I'm all kinds of happy about this. It doesn't mean we can make out in the hallway or anything (as if we would) but it does mean that the girls, although they will likely continue to gossip about us, will eventually stop going to our officers & staff with questions/concerns about the appropriateness of our relationship.
It was a great week for us. We are hoping that come fall, the girls will have forgotten about us and figure out something better to do with their time. We may be dealing with this until I graduate next May, but I can dream. LOL.

Good! I hate people who get up in my business! Yay for you. They will find someone else to talk about anyway. Glad you had a good week!

Thanks, everyone. It's just really nice that we are finally being backed by the higher-ups, because the thing is, we're not doing anything wrong, and have been made to feel like we were at times.

I was being polite, blue. They're really more like stupid girls. I hate to see that this is what we're sending into the world.
And while looks are not everything, the vast majority, sadly, are overweight, and don't give a damn about what they look like most days (many of our students attended a play recently and egads, what they wore on opening night, I was mortified. Spandex is almost never a good idea, nevermind when you're 50+lbs overweight). Granted, I'm not in a skirt and heels everyday, but I do put on clothes I didn't sleep in the night before (whereas they come to class in their jammies, even at 11am), I do put on makeup, I fix my hair, and am generally put together. Not because I'm going to see JM either, because he's seen me look every which way, but because I like to put my best foot forward as often as possible. We're a women's college, sure, but we always have visitors from one place or another, and it just makes me think they are lazy and they don't have pride in how they present themselves.
You might like the girls at ISU better.

This is very sad, but very true. Which is probably another reason I'm not so loved by some students, because I won't tolerate listening to that crap. One of the gossips last semester was yapping about how someone's kid behaves (a 2yo -- we do have student mothers living in separate dorms from the resident students) and I told her that it was very rude to talk about another student, and until she is a mother trying to go to school with a little kid, she could not possibly imagine how hard it is and therefore should STFU. I was a little more tactful than that, but that's pretty much where I went with it.
I used to think that a women's college was a good idea. Now I'm not so sure. I think we need more testosterone on campus to balance out all the estrogen!
