Brian's Run 10k
Tapered with a 45 mile bike ride yesterday. The clouds cleared for the 1 PM start and it was now in the upper 50s. The race is known for a challenging course and they made it tougher this year because of the postponement. It was 2 miles down, 2 miles flat, and 2 mile climb.
I started in the back and still went out very fast. When you turned the first corner, you could see over 1/4 mile of people on a 2 lane road shoulder to shoulder. A Kodak moment. I hit mile 2 at 16:00 clock time. Yep, very fast start. I knew I wasn't going to hold a 5k pace with a 2 mile climb at the end so I backed it down. Hit mile 4 at 36:00. That is better. Now it is all up hill from here. Very hard climb back into town. A short down hill for a chance at recovery but now you are ready for the final kick. You make a U turn into a field so it was hard to time your kick. I started then saw people make another turn so backed off until I knew where the finish was. Came in at 56:12. I held my pace for the climb. That was mind of matter and some smart racing in the middle miles.
Since this was my first 10k outside a tri, I guess I have a PR to boot.

Thanks, we just found out the course was .22 miles long. My new pace would be 8:44 which would give me a time of 54:17. Maybe even lower since I would have been fresher for the hill
