Okay, so I'm doing my 4 mile tempo run today. The first 3 miles I just went out and ran fast, like I normally would. The last mile starts on an uphill street. Today, for some reason, I decided to increase my leg turnover and make my steps just a wee bit shorter on this uphill.

Next thing I know, I've got plenty of juice left at the top of the hill. I kept my same cadence going while keeping my steps smaller than what I haf been doing. Here's the result:

Miles 1-3: 8:20 pace (and close to oxygen debt through most of it)
Mile 4: 7:30 pace (no oxygen debt and heart rate seemed to be a bit more relaxed)

Is it possible that my longer stride length and slower cadence has been keeping me from running efficiently?

On my 6 miler Sunday, I think I'll try and keep that quicker cadence/shorter stride going and see how that goes.
