My gf recording her favorite soap (Passions) and was watching it last night. In the middle of the recording there is a bulletin for Breaking News.
Did we invade Libya?
Did the Pope die?
Has there been another terrorist attack on America?
Nope.
Michael Jackson has been charged with a crime.
Later on the news, that was the leading story. I guess no soldiers were killed in Iraq and nothing of actual importance happened in the world yesterday.
It's not even like this was a surprise. It's not like this is a crime that Michael Jackson hasn't been charged with before.
And that's breaking news?

ugggg.....NBC just broke in that he had been arrested and was in custody. Seriously, this is not break-into-programming-important-type-news. It's awful if it's true and all, but really, just because Jacko is a wacko doesn't make this that important compared to other things going on in the world.

I heard a snippet on the radio this morning that Kobe Bryant was thanking God and Jacko for taking the focus of attention off him.
That Wacko Jacko is breaking-news-worthy sure says a lot about our society and the media.
