George Takey (?) who used to play Mr Sulu on the original Star Trek and the movies with Shatner/Nimoy, just outed himself last Thursday.
I suppose the reason this made front page is because ST has pretty much become an institution since its inception almost 40 years go.

As a straight person it's easy to say this is personal info that I just don't need to know. But perhaps if I were gay I'd feel the need to come out, too. Society really isn't "orientation-neutral" after all, and straight/gay is as much about differing cultures as it is about the underlying sexual practises.
