I made it to my taper. I broke this marathon down into two phases, training, and the race. Training completed. (or those runs I've never ever done before)

Our parents were full of crap saying that. Being proud of our accomplishments is NOT a bad thing unless it gets obnoxious and we start acting like we're better than everyone else. Otherwise, it's perfectly healthy and contributes to the development of a healthy self-esteem.
Having said that, my videotaped final project for my counseling class came out really really well, and since my lab partner and I were both "keepin it real" she even told me afterwards that what we talked about really gave her a new perspective on what she's been dealing with. I was thrilled...for both of us!

My long fuse and the fact that I give the benefit of the doubt a lot to people for some reason allows people to really respect me.
And I am good judge of character and people. Usually within a few minutes

What kind of self respecting cop has a long fuse AND gives people the benefit of the doubt? You're the one we read about in text books, aren't you?

Holy crap, officer!! To an English teacher, that first sentence is like waving the red cape at the bull!! Where's the red pencil?
I won't comment on textbooks but I know that this is the type of police officer which we rarely read about in the newspapers. And that's unfortunate.

It drives me nuts when my kids tell me "but this isn't English". Too bad our English teachers are so busy, or I'd have them grade their papers. I bet they'd like my grade much better.

Content Kat is what I am after content. I would rather have a fact filled correct paper than a correctly written paper with nothing but ramble.

Finally something we disagree on. Too often content is pushed over the method through which content is dispensed. Too often facts & figures are accentuated over substance of knowledge base. Too often kids learn dates, formulas, etc. that they soon forget rather than learning how to synthesize their ideas and write about them - substituting rote knowledge for critical analysis. There's a lot of danger in that method of teaching in a world that is becoming more increasingly dependent upon basic communication skills.

Lauri, the grammar teacher will be grading that stuff. She won't be grading my content either. I could grade the grammar but we are doing this as a joint venture so they can learn real proper report writing.
