Be careful what you wish for! A lonely 8 year old girl who loves all things
science fiction wishes for a monster for Christmas. Despite warnings from the housekeeper about a Thingy that steals Christmas presents, the
girl continues to wish for a monster.
This was a great book to real aloud to all the Pokys. Little Poky was a little
anxious the first time we read it, but now loves it. She loves to quote my
signature line. The older Pokys have great time torturing little Poky about getting a Thingy for Christmas.
The artwork by Alan M Clark is amazing.
I give it 4.5 out 5 candy canes

Is it a chapter book?
Is it involved enough for a 12 yo?

No it is not a chapter book.
From what you have mentioned, the book may not be involved enough
for Colin. However if he still likes being read to, it might be fun to check out of the library and read together.
