Posted: 09/04/04 - 05:41 Post subject: Book Review: American Soldier by General Tommy Franks
General Tommy Franks was commander of CENTCOM (Central Command) during Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
This is an autobiography of that goes through his boyhood life in Midland, Texas to the jungles of Vietnam, posts in Germany, Korea, Washington DC, Tampa, and ending in the desert of Iraq.
Being an avid reader of military history. I was very interested in reading this book. I was able to read a lot of what goes on behind the scenes of planning, and preparing for war.
Excellent book, by a very interesting man, who served his country with honor.

This one is really hot on the reserves lists, as well as few other political nonfiction books. I want to read it, but my library has yet to order it Did you read Imperial Hubris by Anonymous? It sounds good too.

cant wait to read it. Always like reading books from a true insider not a historian with hindsight.
I'll swap you some mags Greg for that one.

I'm interested in reading this one. Glad to hear it is good. Might have to put it on reserve after the honeymoon.

Just finished it. Loved it. TF was an awesome commander. He truly wanted the buck to stop with him and he would be responsible for the decisions. I like that in a leader.
The only battlefield commander I think is better is Harold Moore.

Finished it a few weeks ago. Great book. Shows you how to be a leader not just in words but also in action.
