Bike experts !! Opinions please part Deux

As you may know I'm seriously looking at the Trek 1000. Went to one of the better bike stores in the area this AM. They were talking the 2006 LeMond "Etape" as a comparable model at about the same cost range ($ 689 US)

Any opinions ? Is it worth the extra $ 130 or so ? These guys would sub saddles and seat posts. Honestly they had a much better handle on specs also.

You get a little better front derailleur on the LeMond. Andy, you may or may not know that I started with a Trek 1000 in the spring and traded it in on a LeMond Tourmalet just a few weeks ago.
The Etape and the 1000 are virtually identical component-wise. At this point I would say buy the bike that fits you best. Frame geometry will be slightly different from maker to maker.
My LeMond is a better component group than the 1000, therefore it would be wrong of me to criticize the 1000 by comparison. I will say that my LeMond is a beautifully balanced bike and extremely comfortable to ride (and it's not women's specific design and my Trek was).
