The commute was much better/easier this time around. I left my dirty work clothes in the office and rode home with a minimally filled backpack (I'll drive on Friday so I can pick up the dirty clothes). It was pretty fun zipping past the rush hour traffic that stood still. I'm gonna ride again tomorrow.

When I got home, Ang had scored a rear pannier rack and a breadbox bag (both freebies). She's gonna keep her eyes peeled for some panniers. It looks like the trusty Trek 1000 will be fully transformed to a commuter bike after the tri season when I get a new road and/or tri bike.

I didnt understand what those bike parts were but cool! I am glad it looks like it will work for you. I carpooled for the first time today. I hope this works out. It will cut my gas bills almost in half.

Isn't it fun? I carpooled today, but will be back at the bike commute for my next shift (Friday). I don't mind the backpack, since it's free and just minimal clothing will be in it. Just makes my back sweat more though. I find the heat isn't even that bad on the bike.

I love their faces! Around here, they go from "look at that crazy bastage I just passed" to "That SOB passed me again!"

Do you find a significant difference in commuting time between car and bike? For me, they only differ by about 10 minutes (5 on a good day).

I did the second day today, myself. On the way home last time, I found a bit of a short cut that takes out the last (worst) hill.

I go a different way on bike. When I drive I take the Interstate for about 2 miles and then one of the heavier-traffic roads. It's quicker because you can go faster. The route that I bike is more direct, but it has way more lights. If I drove this way, it'd be about 10 minutes difference between bike and car.

It must be nice to have the bike as an option. I'd have to balance six kids on my handlebars. Sad

Six?!? Here's a solution -- chain up 3 double Chariots and you're on your way...with about 150lbs extra weight.
