Bad symbolism, makes it look like it wasn't important to him, another day for Americans to seem like a bunch of ignorant bumblef*cks. Of course his office didn't comment, b/c they're not into admitting mistakes under any circumstance.
I don't think this is a particularly big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I understand it's news the same way that what the bride and groom at Britney's Chick Filet wedding was interesting to us.

Cheney looked like he's never taken in a diplomacy lesson but it's not a major story. Just something else to laugh about.

I see quite a few parkas at funerals this time of year.
Frankly, this is the first time I've ever heard of talk about funeral coat attire. You'd think people suddenly took Hollywood fashion police seriously. |
You would? Boy, I wouldn't. I'm hardly a fashion snob (I'm mostly a fashion don't), but I do know that our appearance says something about us and should reflect the seriousness of a situation. I would bet he wouldn't show up to work in short and a T just because its 100 degrees out and there is no way he hell he would have worn that get up for the innaguration.
For the record, I dont think it is a big deal, though I do think it was poor judgement. Doesn't surpise me how this thread has gone though

Completely a$$inine. I think the other people look like morons with the way THEY were dressed. It was cold and snowing for crying out loud. Well being and comfort ALWAYS take precedence in my book.
By the way, here's a weather story...
http://www.terradaily.com/2005/050127222613.695vta1y.html
Take note of | Quote: | In a ceremony marking the liberation 60 years ago of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz, Poland world leaders stood in biting cold and softly falling snow pleading for the horrors of the Holocaust never to be forgotten.
Snow and sub-zero temperatures prevented new Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, who attended the Auschwitz ceremony, from flying to Brussels to introduce himself to European Union members. And the arrival in Poland of Russian President Vladimir Putin was delayed for nearly 20 hours due to bad weather.

I believe dressing to prevent being cold is more universally accepted at a formal event than dressing scantily for a warm day.

Sartorial style not up to par. Why would one wear such casual dress to a formal memorial ceremony is beyond me. That shows a definite disregard to the solemnity/importance of the ceremony. He looks like he should be driving a snowmobile someplace in Northern Wisconsin (and yes, I AM from WI, and there is nothing wrong with that attire for driving a snowmobile.) For a formal event, it is definitely not appropriate.

I don't think it's a huge deal, but I'm surprised that someone on his staff (the protocol czar?) didn't say something.
He does have the "dude, I knew I should have worn the black overcoat" look on his face though, doesn't he?
I've felt that feeling before, it's not a good one

OK, here's a thought to stir the pot. For everyone who believes in respecting the position of president /vice president, do you not think it appropriate that the person in that office should have respect for the position as well?
You can say appearance does not matter, but in this case, it's about how we present ourselves to the rest of the world. In my opinion, this is not the way you dress for a memorial service. This is an example of why many other countries feel that Americans are a bunch of impolite oafs.

I think this whole issue is just silly. A fashion faux pas, yes. A diplomatic crisis hardly.
These other coutries that think we are oafs, will no likely accept our military or economic assistance in time of crisis. Parka not withstanding

And on an off shoot of that thought - would it be showing respect to that office if a person went to meet the President looking like that? What would you wear if you had a chance to meet him? I'm guessing most guys here would wear a suit and tie. Why is that?
