Bicycling is supposed to be fun, not painful. I used to tolerate saddle discomfort believing it's simply an inevitable part of the sport. I hoped that it would pass. However I am suffering every time I hit the road or trail! My brother says that on the right saddle, I can enjoy even lengthy rides while hardly noticing the seat at all. I am supposed to have a right kind of saddle. Can you tell me something about bicycke saddle & sit bones widths?

Different people have different sit bones. So there are different widths of the saddles. You have to find a seat with a rear shape that fits the width of your sit bones. Sit bones are the 2 points you feel when sitting on a curb. The proper saddle should support and cushion you in the right spots. If your sit bones are too wide or narrow for a certain seat, you may feel discomfort and even pain. If you dont find appropriate seat it will get only worse. If you have a saddle you've been riding, you can usually see the small indentations or marks formed right where your sit bones rest. This can help you in selecting a new saddle to make sure it's the right width. You can also measure your sit bone width with a ruler and use the measurement to select the proper saddle. Your sit bones should be centered over the rear of the saddle. Usually there are anatomic bumps there for this purpose.
