It's a family tradition coming down many generations on both sides of my family and my wife's too. This afternoon, we'll be cramming buckets, bins, and flats with some of the juciest strawberries the Mississippi valley has to offer. A few more weeks until the blueberries are ready. Mmmm, life is like a bowl o' berries

We'll be gluttons for the first few days...berry juice dripping from our chins. My wife will be jam making next week, the freezer will be chock full and lots of bakin'. The strawberries this afternoon will be from a farm and likely much of the blueberries, but the family traditions come down mostly from wild blueberry picking. I have great memories of crawling through bogs and different lakeshores, filling ice cream pails until they heaped. My dad grew up the poorest of the dirt poorest and made some money picking wild berries to sell and I kid you not, the man is a machine. Anyway, the wild berry patches knock the tastebuds outta the tame ones.

YUMMMM!!!! Our backyard's like a fruit orchard as my mom's an avid gardener and loves fruit trees. We have a patch of strawberries, a cherry tree, apple tree, plum tree (it hasnt borne any fruit), peach tree, and a grape vine. This year we had a great harvest of cherries and the strawberries are just as delicious as last year. Looks like we are going to have a nice harvest of grapes as well!!
