Bernard Lagat, won the 1,500 meters at the Norwich Union indoor meet in Glasgow on Saturday. First time as US athlete.

Lagat switched to U.S. citizenship after silver medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He couldn’t compete at any major championships for three years under international rules.

The 32-year-old ex-Kenyan athlete said:"It's my first time holding the American flag, so it's very special.''. He stated that this is only a beginning and that he’ll carry the US flag again.

Lagat studied at Washington State University in the late 1990s, so is already used to having American fans cheering for him.
He said that this time it’s different, because he completed victory lap holding flag of his country.
"I'm very proud to be part of the American milers.'', said Lagat.

Other winners for the United States on Saturday in Glasgow were Aarik Wilson in the long jump, Milton Campbell in the 200 meters and Richard Smith, who had his first victory this season in the 800 meters.
