For those of you that drink beer I have a question. My county decided to stop recycling bottles (they claim they lose money on it) so should I switch to cans of beer like Miller Lite (to help keep my svelte runner's figure) which are 2 dollars a 12 pack more than bottles of Southpaw light which only come in bottles?

If I buy the cans I know I am helping the environment but it is costing me 2 bucks more or do I say screw the environment and just buy the bottles and save the 2 bucks?

You could always ship them up to Michigan. You get 10 cents per bottle! You might just break even! Wink

Recycling shouldn't be about making money. I wonder how much they were losing to justify cutting the program.

Having said that, you can find someone who homebrews, we can go through bottles like crazy. I don't really bottle my stuff anymore but I used to collect empties from my BIL and friends in exchange for a sixer every now and then.

Here's what you do:

Keep buying and using bottles. Save them. and then deposit them outside the agency that stopped the recycling program.

Spread the word. Get neighbors, friends, coworkers, etc...involved in the program.

Maybe you'll make some social change.

Right on. Watch the Seinfeld episodes where Kramer and Newman do just that. Don't follow a car with golf clubs in the back seat, though.

We have big igloos throughout our county that stuff can be deposited in. If you drink a lot of beer, save them and transport to them to an igloo.

Unless money is real tight and you want to really recycle, spend the 2 bux more and you will feel better.

You're forgetting the biggest concern: the taste. Bottled beer tastes infinitely better than canned. Buy the bottles and save them, making a periodic trip to the recycling plant. Just because your county won't be recycling glass anymore does not mean they will not have the facilities to do so. In Philly they don't recycle plastic, but they still provide me a place to take it. This way you save money, protect the environment, and get the best tasting beer - win-win-win!

Good Point!

Our plant takes everything! We have a bin as large as our trashcan and sometimes it's got more stuff in it than the trash.

Move to Maine.

You get money back for beer, wine, liquor, juice, soda and other beverage containers that are recyclable.

5 per adds up man. We're talking a trashbag full will by you a Power Bar man.
